Agriculture in Serbia today is not only a tradition — it’s a business that requires planning, technology, and continuous investment. That’s where the SCAP project plays a key role, helping micro, small, and medium producers modernize their production, acquire equipment, and become more resilient to market challenges through its 50:40:10 co-financing model.
STORY FROM THE FIELD — Ivana, Vegetable Production, and the Daily Rhythm
Ivana from Žabalj is engaged in vegetable farming, primarily growing peppers. She describes her work simply and honestly: “There’s no easy day, but every day brings something that keeps me in this job.”
With support from the project, her farm gained a real opportunity to improve production. Instead of big words — small but visible steps: better organization, improved equipment, and higher efficiency, especially during the busy season when every hour counts.
What makes her story unique is the quiet way she leads it — without drama or exaggeration. Ivana knows that agriculture offers no quick wins, but she also knows that every effort must have a purpose.
WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE — Often Unseen, But Essential
The role of women in agriculture is often taken for granted and rarely acknowledged. That’s why Ivana sends an important message to other women in rural areas:
“Don’t underestimate your work. Agriculture isn’t just for men. There’s a place for us — if we choose to take it.”
Her story shows how vital women are for the development of local communities — they bring organization, consistency, and a realistic approach to business.
Ivana’s story from Žabalj isn’t a romantic tale — it’s an example of quiet perseverance.
The Serbia Competitive Agriculture Project doesn’t solve all problems — but it does support those willing to take the first step forward.
Ivana has shown exactly that: progress is possible when expectations are adjusted, sleeves are rolled up, and plans are made — one step at a time.
Agriculture remains a challenge — but it’s also a field where women like Ivana are increasingly taking firm, confident steps on their own ground.
